BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

The Port District is authorized and is directed by the Board of commissioners in accordance with the Revised Code of Washington. The Board of Commissioners adopted the following goals and objectives for the Port of Allyn.

 

GOALS

The primary goals of the Port are:

1. Maintenance and Improvement of existing facilities owned by the Port of Allyn

2. Recognition of the growing demand for waterside facilities such as docks, ramps, small boat marinas, and similar harbor improvements.

3. Development of Port owned facilities and properties in particular and Port District and county properties in general.

4. Acquisition and development of land and facilities for industrial, recreational, and other purposes compatible with the area, and consistent with State of Washington Growth Management Act.

5. Development of tourist industry in North Mason area.

6. Development of new businesses and light industry which are compatible with the Growth Management Act and the environment.

7. Development of adequate infrastructure to support the Port District goals

8. Review all Port activity for consistency with environmentally sound practices

 

 

OBJECTIVES

In order to achieve the primary goals of the Port, the Board of Commissioners has adopted the following objectives:

 

GOAL 1: Existing Facilities

OBJECTIVES

Completion of Allyn Dock upgrade -

Installation of marine pump out units at Allyn & North Shore dock -

Replacement and expansion of North Shore Dock -

Replace elevated boat launch at Allyn Dock - Improve parking area at North Shore facilities

Provide permanent restroom, drinking water and other improvements at North Shore property

Provide permanent restroom, drinking water and other improvements at Waterfront Park - Replace signage of Port properties to provide consistency, improve aesthetic quality and provide a strong sense of Port identity - Increase moorage at Allyn Dock -Protection of oyster beds at Port facilities -

GOAL 2: Saltwater Access & Harbor Improvements

OBJECTIVES:

Acquisition of salt water access on Hood Canal and Case Inlet to improve recreational and tourist opportunities - Build kayak `take outs' and other such structures to improve and increase non-motorized water craft activity -

GOAL 3: Industrial Development

OBJECTIVES:

Develop inventory of space for lease

Provide `incubator' space for small and medium size new businesses and industries

Support passage of county and local ordinances that are compatible with development of light industry 


GOAL 4:  Acquisition of Land

OBJECTIVES:
Acquire land and/or structures to facilitate development of industrial, commercial, public service or recreational projects that are compatible with the environment and suitable for the Port's geographic area - Acquire land to provide adequate parking at Allyn and North Shore facilities -
 
GOAL5:  TOURISM
OBJECTIVES:

Increase opportunities for public access to saltwater throughout the Port District -

Increase Port supported activities at Allyn Waterfront Park - ONGOING

Seek opportunities for small and/or seasonal businesses that support waterfront activities to locate in Allyn:

Work with North Mason Visitors Information Center in promoting tourism - Support efforts to provide meeting/convention facility for up to 300 people - Support efforts to provide adequate lodging facilities including RV parks and Bed & Breakfast establishments.

GOAL 6: Business & Industries

OBJECTIVES:

Assist existing businesses to grow and develop -Inform businesses of economic development incentive programs and opportunities Develop program to promote Port district to light industry and tourist trade -
Support development of cottage-type industries

Support creation and retention of family wage jobs

GOAL 7: Infrastructure

OBJECTIVES

Support installation of three phase power for light industrial uses

Support development of stormwater plans as required by the Growth Management Act -
Support development, upgrade and expansion of water system(s) to provide adequate fire flow and potable water for present and future needs -
Support upgrade of telecommunications systems and improved access

Support development of adequate sewer systems

GOAL 8: Environment

OBJECTIVES:

Support county recycling efforts

Operate within "best management" practices in all projects

Support activities which preserve, enhance and protect the natural beauty and resources of the North Mason area
